We have a brand-new printer!18/05/2017 , 09:58
We are happy to announce that we have a new full colour production printer — Canon ImagePress C10000VP. The new device will help us reduce the book production time, improve quality and also offer new formats and book binding techniques.
New Investment in Further Development!27/10/2016 , 11:06
Our new equipment — automatic sheet feeding and folding machine Technograph Helix Dig.IT developed by our order under the Italian brand Prontotec has had a “warm up” already and we are ready to show it in action. With this equipment we can make the sewing of digitally printed book sections an automated process, since the machine itself folds, completes and feeds the book section to the sewing machine, where it is automatically sewn together. As a result, we have an opportunity to prepare hardcover volumes a lot faster.
Printed books revive06/10/2016 , 14:30
The Head of our company Valdis Jirgens tells about books, reading habits, circulations, Latvian original literature and modern technologies in the interview to the journalist of the newspaper “Diena” Magda Riekstiņa.
A fragment of the interview:
Recently the data on the circulation of the Latvian original literature were published. They revealed that hundreds not thousands of books are printed. How would you comment?
Thousand copies in today’s Latvia is a big circulation. For our company “Drukātava”, the average printed circulation is around 300 copies. As to the statistics showing the circulation of the published books, it should be noted that it might not include the so called additional printing.
So the data show smaller number of copies than it is actually published?
Yes, moreover, the statistics do not include the titles of all the published books. Nowadays, people in Europe and also in Latvia print books for themselves, friends and business partners. These books are printed, for example in the circulation of 50 copies and are not sold or put in libraries and are not included in the statistics. The time has passed when the statistics on the circulation of books were accurate, however, the statistics, of course, show the tendency. It is true that the circulation of books does not increase in Latvia, but decrease.
How would you explain the decrease? Maybe it is because it is possible to read books electronically?
I think that this decrease in circulation is not related to e-environment. The popularity of e-books decreases in the world. E-books are becoming the product of niche suitable to take with you to business and leisure trips when you wait for your flight or in train. E-books are suitable for trips but I don’t think people will sit at home with a cup of tea and read an e-book instead of printed book. Maybe a fan of modern technologies would read e-books at home. The global statistics show that printed books have become topical again, as many people have tried reading e-books but have come to conclusion that they want to read printed books.
Printing and binding doctoral thesis05/09/2016 , 18:04
Until now, we had been proud of printing and binding high-quality books. Now we would like to use our experience and offer you a perfect quality by printing and binding your doctoral, master, bachelor, qualification and other theses. We offer you perfect printing and qualitative binding with threads (not a glued block), hardback with a round back, golden or silver foil print on the cover – all this shows the attitude of the author of the paper towards work and will make the reviewers and evaluators appreciate the thesis.
We are ready to discuss the possibility to publish especially valuable doctoral theses in the form of a book.
It should be noted that the first book of writers is usually a simple brochure after publishing of which the writer is already inspired to write the next one, the doctoral thesis, in its turn, is the basis to obtain an academic degree and usually one student writes only one doctoral thesis, therefore each and every detail matters.
Our own land and soon also our own home14/07/2016 , 18:02
Since the beginning of our operations in 2005 in the basement on Lāčplēša Street, we have dreamt of premises that would be suitable to our needs. During these more than 10 years “Drukātava” has rented premises in six places and in each place there were deficiencies that had to be faced either by equipment or by our employees. Now we have taken a significant step towards our ideal home by purchasing a land plot for construction of our production building in Olaine parish.
Our own home is not a caprice, as during these years it was not easy to find premises because of the specific requirements – certain temperature and humidity level has to be maintained, floors and walls have to have specific covering to avoid dust, and there are several other nuances that can impact the quality of our products. The premises have to be compact enough, with the possibility to expand them. Own home is better as it is more difficult for external conditions to have an impact on our business and in our own home we have dedicate all our work to the thing we love the most – creating gorgeous and qualitative work for our clients.
